Dutch cabbage is a tasty vegetable, which has become ubiquitous in supermarkets. Appreciated for its high quality and versatility, Dutch cabbage is healthy and full of flavour. Both white and red cabbage are great sources of fibre, vitamins (B, C, and K), and minerals (manganese, calcium, iron, and phosphorus).

Distribution

Hofotra supplies Dutch cabbage to buyers active in the food supply chain, such as trading companies, export companies, and the processing industry. The cabbage eventually finds its way to the customer in or outside the Netherlands, through the supermarket channel or markets.

White cabbage and red cabbage

At Hofotra you can find both white and red cabbage, farmed in Noord-Holland.

White pointed cabbage and  Savoy cabbages

Dutch White pointed cabbages and Dutch savoy cabbages are available as well. Contact us about our selection. 

Cultivation

Cabbages are farmed mainly in Noord-Holland. This is due to the great farming conditions in this area. After the soil is prepared, the cabbages are planted in May. Subsequently, these grow into beautiful tasty cabbages in four months.

Harvest

During the months of September, October, and November the cabbages are harvested. This is a labour intensive job, which includes cutting the cabbages on the field. Next, the cabbages are stacked in storage boxes by hand and driven to storage.

Storage

Following arrival at the storage facility, the cabbages are stored under the right conditions. During the storage process, quality is monitored closely.
